Well Kentucky played as ugly a first 14:59 as they’ve played all year against the nerds from Penn. The Cats’ shooting was terrible, their defense was uninspired and Penn’s Tyler Bernardini scored 16 points in the first half. The Cats were down 31-19, then they flipped the switch, decided they cared and went on 14-1 [...] So I went to the Craft Center today hoping to learn a little about how this year’s team is looking and what we can expect from the Cats in the Frozen North which I hear has year round snow. I hope they packed jackets for when they get off the plane. Here’s what I learned today: Josh [...] In addition to the aforementioned Tayshaun Prince former Kentucky Basketball greats Mike Casey and Billy Ray Lickert will be entering the UK Athletics Hall of Fame. All very appropriate picks. Whether Prince will now get his jersey retired remains to be seen, but the first part of the requirements is satisfied. Five years after entry [...] So as the day goes on more info (scant though) comes out about the alleged investigation into four UK basketball players and their “associations” with professional agents while in high school. While gossip magazine TMZ may have heard “something” from a “source” that may or may not know anything, it bears a little dissection. The NCAA [...] While we’re all enjoying these long Summer days and jogging in the hot sun while sweating like a pig and generally enjoying the good weather, it’s tempting to read into every morsel of comment about Kentucky’s upcoming season and destine the 2010-11 Wildcats for championship number 8. That is tied for Kentucky’s third best start in history. After Kentucky’s top five best starts, this one excluded, Kentucky has won the national championship three times and been the national runner-up once.
John Calipari said yesterday on the SEC coaches teleconpherence that he would like his players to shoot more stating: ”What I’m trying to say to our guys is, we’re one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country….Only three things can happen when you shoot the basketball. I wanted to address some other incidentals to last night’s game so here they are: Kentucky is now 78-18 (.813) all time against Mississippi State. Kentucky’s first game against then Mississippi A&M was a 46-27 Kentucky [...] DeMarcus Cousins’ phone number was the big topic of discussion leading up to the UK/Miss. St. game tonight. In case you have been out of the country for the last couple of days, somehow Mississipi State fans got hold of Demarcus Cousins’ phone number and have been calling him and texting him pretty consistently leading [...] About two weeks ago “The Dude” finished his series of mid-season player evaluations. I repost them here for several reasons. I think it provides perspective on how some of these players have improved in just the past couple of weeks, particularly Liggins and Cousins whose evaluation was written a month ago.
